Who's who in the history of...
The Monument:
The original veterans monument (Court of Valor) was built by the Caldwell Family of Coffeyville when they owned the Restlawn Cemetery located at Cline Road and Woodland Avenue in Coffeyville, KS. 67337.
The Restlawn Cemetery and the Court of Valor are now owned and operated by the City of Coffeyville, Coffeyville KS. Volunteers have been maintaining the monument and flags since then.
The volunteers:
Veterans organizations and other individuals have been the backbone for upkeep on the monument to include painting flag poles, changing ropes and replacing flags when needed.
The Association:
The formation of the Coffeyville Veterans Memorial Park Association came about when it came to light that the monument was starting to deteriorate and that there was no space on the existing monument to add more names.
The association was formed by enlisting members, both veterans and citizens from different programs that have been involved with veterans affairs.
The original Court of Valor Committee which primarily took care of the monuments upkeep with fundraising and purchasing needed items.
The Avenue of Flags, in its day, were the veterans and citizens that would put the flags up in the cemetery and along 11th Street on Memorial and Veterans Days.
The Flags of Honor, led by John Hufferd along with his family and other volunteers, put flags on the streetlight poles along highway 166 (11th street)
These three groups have now merged into the Coffeyville Veterans Memorial Park Association. The current association members are listed in the "Contacts" page.
